JOB TITLE:  NURSERY EARLY YEARS PRACTITIONER

SCALE:  £11.00 PER HOUR, 24 HOURS TERM TIME ONLY

REPORTS TO:  CHILDCARE & EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM MANAGER

REPORTING TO:  UPG PROJECT MANAGEMENT TEAM

ACCOUNTABLE TO:  URBAN PARTNERSHIP GROUP MANAGEMENT BOARD

 

 

JOB PURPOSE

 

  • To improve outcomes against Early Years Foundation Stage agenda by working supportively and collaboratively with children attending the nursery and their families
  • To work as a member of the Children’s Centre team, to support practitioners both within the hub & spokes to improve the quality of learning through the development and delivery of a high-quality curriculum and a wide range of learning opportunities for all children.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • To support the delivery of high quality Early Years Foundation Stage provision in the settings ensuring it is reflected in positive Ofsted inspection reports and in Masbro Children’s Centre and Nursery monitoring reports.
  • Set a good example in terms of punctuality, attendance, behaviour and dress, and support the development of the Nursery & Children’s Centre reputation and standing within the community.
  • Be fully aware of the Nursery and Children’s Centre Safeguarding Policy & Procedures and alert to signs that a child might be at risk.
  • Ensure at all times your approach is consistent with the Nursery & Children’s Centre Behaviour policy.
  • Actively promote our policies for Equality and Inclusion with regard to ability, culture, gender and belief.
  • To demonstrate excellent understanding of the EYFS and how to implement these areas into practice. To plan activities within the EYFS profile to provide an imaginative, creative and varied programme of play and learning activities covering all aspects of child development.
  • Undertake risk assessments for sessions if required.
  • Keep formal records relating to the sessions, including; attendance register, accident forms, incident records, health and safety checks, evaluations, etc.
  • To ensure that the parent/carer has had explained and has access to all the relevant policies and procedures of the Children’s Centre/nursery.
  • To take on the responsibility as a named Key Person to children attending the nursery. You will be responsible for planning and observing your key children as well as demonstrating excellent communication skills with child’s parent/carers.
  • To settle in the child/children within the session. To give time at the beginning and end of the session to pass on any concerns or queries that the parent may have and inform them of the child’s progress.
  • To administer appropriate basic first aid and emergency treatment to children when required, reporting and recording actions appropriately.
  • To support and develop good practice throughout the staff team, including sessional staff, student placements and volunteers.
  • To ensure that the provision responds appropriately to issues around safe guarding children from harm, health and safety and other statutory requirements as laid down in the Children Act concerning the care and supervision of children.
  • To attend meetings as required, contributing to the development of the Nursery staff team.
  • To undertake any other duties as instructed by the Senior Management Team contributing to the aims and objectives of the Nursery & Children’s Centre.
  • To promote high professional standards and appropriate levels of expectation throughout every aspect of the Nursery & Children’s Centre functioning.
  • To assist the Senior Management Team in writing up plans, observations, evaluations and demonstrate a good understanding of IT and written skills
  • Undertake certain domestic jobs within the Setting, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment and such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the manager
